A pair of doctors associated with the NFL have made the headlines in recent days. In South Carolina, the doctor who pleaded guilty to conspiring to illegally prescribe steroids to several Carolina Panthers was sentenced to one year and one day in prison. Appeals are likely, even though the sentence would allow Dr. James Shortt to earn credits for good behavior -- which could shorten his time served. On the other end of the spectrum, the doctor whose pioneering work on sports injuries included four operations on Joe Namath's knees has died of colon cancer in New York. Dr. James Nicholas was 85. from: www.nfl.com/news
